Communication is an integral part of society — more so of one rebuilding itself from one of the most devastating disasters that has shaken the nation.
To assist in the country’s efforts to aid the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban, Trilink and Harris coordinated with Air21, DSWD, and PAGASA to install and deploy a Harris 2-Site P25 Trunked Radio System with coverages in Metro Manila and Tacloban. Through a 2-month 3Mbps VSAT connection that weprovided for free, the two sites communicate with each otherthrough submersible hand-portable radios and durable mobile and fixed base radios. Harris smartphone app called BeOn was installed on top-level managers’ and officials’ smartphones to link the radios deployed on Metro Manila and Tacloban. At the time, no cellphone coverages were yet available in Taclobanand the Harris P25 system was the only line of voice communication bridging Tacloban to everyone else looking to send much-needed help and assistance.
